Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ800 review

Panasonic's flagship 42-inch plasma TV boasts a 'Full HD' 1080p resolution and the full monty of the company's picture-processing technology to give an impressive viewing experience. But in the current financial climate, the 42PZ800's cheaper rivals may prove its worst enemy

Sony Bravia KDL-52W4500 review

Having recently liked the performance of Sony's Bravia KDL-46Z4500 LCD TV before being put off by its high price, we took delivery of the much better value KDL-52W4500 with a real sense of anticipation. If it can approach the quality of the 46Z4500 at a much lower price per inch, it'll be just fine by us

Rating Comments
5 Star Rating Okay, well maybe this review should be taken with a pinch of salt as I've only had the TV for three days... The colours just ooze from the screen. The 37inches are more than enough for my lounge, so goodness knows why anyone needs anything bigger. Seriously, I've never seen anything look this good. I was considering a Sony LCD, but for the money, this is much better value. (If you have a certain credit card you'll get a 5% discount at another web retailer... make sure you look around for a good price - I got mine for a little over seven-hundred!) Obviously you need to be using Hd sources to make the most of this TV. Hook up your Playstation 3 to witness some of the best clarity ever... games and BluRay movies look awesome... been playing Tekken, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword - they look fabntastic! Can't wait for Wipeout HD to be released in May '08! (Note: Don't be foolish enough to buy a fifty-quid HDMI cable... I bought one for under a tenner on Amazon and it's perfect.) Freeview looks good... obviously it's not sharp like HD sources, but considering I've had a CRT for 5 years without a digibox, I'm happy! Standard DVDs look good too (up-res'ing them through the PS3 works well... although it's obviously not as good a BluRay.) Sound is very good, but it does lack a slight punch.. or bass to be exact... to be honest I need to get a home cinema set-up. However, it's not essential, the VIVA surround option works very well. Looks great too, much better than it's older brother (37LZD70)... just remember to give it a light clean now and again - it gets warm and attracts dust. The stand comes supplied, thankfully, but you'll need to buy a wall-mount seperately if you want to hang it (and that's not cheap.) Anyway, like I said after three days I'm delighted. But with any TV, unless you're going to take advantage of HD (such as a PS3 or SkyHD) you might as well stick with your CRT until the prices drop. (When this first came out, it cost a grand... and whatever you do, don't buy it from the high-street because they're still charging that much!) Oh, and if you're not hanging it - make sure you get a decent stand to match it!
